WE ARE FILIPINOS, THE RESILIENT ONES

Filipinos are known for being all smiley and such, but these smiles were, to be honest a smile curved by the rains and storms that passed by them. Philippines is one of those country that undergoes a storm many times at a year. A rain to a storm to a calamity. Calamity, a grim reaper in disguise. Yes it is. It brought horror and threat to people, animals and even properties. But what hurts yet worth boasting is that during this calamity, Filipinos can easily stand up and get back at their feet.

Getting back up again wasn’t really easy. It takes a lot of strength, strong will, and great grip on the situation. When typhoon Yolanda hit Leyte at year 2013, the whole nation was shook because of the amount of properties that were damaged and how many lives and dreams were taken. A lot of family lost a member or more, or worst their whole kin. But thankfully there are these survivors. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger as they said. Those natives of Tacloban, Leyte who survived didn’t have the time to mourn. They may lose a family, a property or a pet, they didn’t waste any time; instead they made the situation a stepping stone for a better and stronger version of themselves. Those natives that survived and lived up to now were the representatives of Filipinos.

They proved that Filipinos are resilient. That we Filipinos are just like bamboo; we bend at the wind’s blow but after that we stand back up again. That we were like rubber bands that no matter how stretched we are we go back to our old selves but already a tested one. That we are like water that our shape depends on where we are placed. That we are Filipinos; the resilient ones. Having this trait must have been one of God’s greatest gift on us. This trait makes us who we are after all the obstacles, and we must thank Him for that.
